Data Storage Device

A data storage device is a piece of equipment that is used for storing information or data. Data storage can be done using virtually in any form of energy. A storage device may possibly hold information or process it as well. There are several types of storage devices to choose from as per user’s convenience. Few of them only hold information and considered to be a recording medium. Devices that process information (data storage equipment) may either access a separate portable recording medium or possess a permanent component to store and retrieve information.

Electronic data storage requires electrical power to store and retrieve the stored data. It is easier to modify and update. Usage of such smart storage devices appears to be more cost effective than alternative methods due to smaller physical space requirements and the ease of rewriting and updating of data on the same medium.
