Data Center Bridging or DCB is a suite created by Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) standards. It enables Converged Fabrics in the data center, where data networking, storage, cluster IPC and traffic management share the same infrastructure of Ethernet network. Currently, data centers typically have multiple applications-specific networks that run on separate link layer technologies such as fibre channel (FC) and Ethernet. This method is for enhancing Ethernet to deploy a single converged network for all the data center application.
Important Functionalities of Data Centre Bridging (DCB)
Some of the key functionalities of data center bridging include the following:
1.) Data Centre Bridging or DCB creates interoperability between DCB-capable network adaptors and switches.
2.) Data Centre Bridging allows system administrators to assign an application to a particular class/priority.
3.) The DCB suite also enables the allocation of bandwidth to a traffic control by percentage.
4.) In addition, Data Centre Bridging allows Ethernet transport that helps bridge the gap between multiple computers running Windows servers.
5.) Data Centre Bridging assists the co-existence of QoS solutions.
6.) DCB also enables DCB Management through Windows PowerShell and Windows Management Instrumentation.
