A Server Log is a log file that lists the actions that have occurred or performed on a server. For example, a web server maintains the list of every page request made to the server. There are diversified proprietary formats, such as W3C maintains a standard format for log files.
The log file includes information about the IP’s, time of request, date, page requested, HTTP code, user agent, bytes served, referrer, and user agent. All the information listed in the log file can be segregated as per the needs, such as error log, referrer log, and access log. Log files are accessible to the webmaster or the admin only. General users cannot access the log files, until and unless they have right to do so.
