Symantec Workspace Virtualization refers to an application virtualization solution designed for Microsoft Windows by Symantec.
It was initially developed by Altiris and was named Software Virtualization Solutions. It permits the applications and data to be put into virtual layers – both application layers and data layers instead of installing them to the base file system and Registry.
This can be accomplished by using a filter driver and layering technology. By assigning applications and data into the managed layers known as Virtual Software Packages, the SWV allows on-the-fly activation, deactivation, or resetting of applications, evade conflicts between applications, and eliminate them easily without changing the base Windows installation
