Render farm is a cluster or group of networked computers designed and devoted to the sole process of rendering. Typically, render farms are used in the production of 3-D animated films. Each of the associated nodes collaborates to render the desired results. High power costs are linked to render farm. A render farms major job is to render computer generated images. A render farm is different from a render wall. A render wall is a tiled display which is used for real-time image rendering.
Typically, a render farm is kept in a separate room with high electricity and cooling supply. The images rendered by render farm are a result of parallel computing where each node can be assigned a specific task. The main computer is responsible to distribute the chores to each of the render node. A render node can be assigned with a full image, a layer of the image, sequence of images, and so on.
