RAM Disk

RAM disk is a block of random-access memory (primary storage) that a computer’s software is treating as if the memory were a disk drive (secondary storage).

Sometimes a RAM disk is referred to as a RAM drive or virtual RAM or software RAM drive to differentiate it from a hardware RAM drive which utilizes separate hardware containing RAM which is a type of battery backed solid-state drive.

In order to create a RAM disk, you’ll require to install a third-party program that creates a virtual drive in Windows. This program would reserve a section of your RAM so that if you have 2 GB of files in your RAM disk, the disk would take up 2 GB of RAM. The entire files on your disk would be stored in your RAM. If you write to the disk, you would just be writing to a different section of your RAM.
