How To Disable Plugins In Joomla

When you are not able to log into a website or if you are experiencing application problems, you may need to disable plugins in Joomla. You can disable the plugins either by making us of the administration interface or by the use of phpMyAdmin.

When you wish to disable plugins using the interface, which is the most commonly used technique: you have to go through certain steps. You need to log into the Joomla website as the administrator. When you see the menu bar at the top of your screen, you will find an option "Extensions". After clicking on this you can choose "Plugin Manager". You will find that the "enabled" plugins have a green colored check mark in their Status columns. The disabled plugins will be automatically accompanied by a red-cross sign like an "x" in their Status columns. Next, you must locate the specific plug-in you wish to disable. You will then have to click on the green mark icon to disable it. When you wish to disable all the plugins together, you have to choose the "Check All" option and then click on "Disable".

When you wish to disable a plug-in using the phpMyAdmin option, you will need to follow certain steps. To do the first method, you have to be able to log into your site as the administrator. This second method is used typically when the first becomes inaccessible since you are unable to log in. you can use the phpMyAdmin for directly modifying the Joomla database. You can therefore log in to the cPanel and then click on phpMyAdmin option on the Databases section displayed on the cPanel home screen. You will need to click the database name and a list of tables gets displayed. In case you have set up Joomla using Softaculous, the database is names ad username_joomXXX. The username here represents the username of your account and the XXX stands for a three-digit number. You have to then click on the jos_extensions table and identify the plug-in you wish to disable inside the name column. You will then need to double click on the value which is in the enabled column on that row. This enabled value for enabled plugins is 1 and for disabled plugins is 0. So, you can type in 0 to disable the plug-in and then click on "Enter". The plug-in successfully disabled and to enable it again, you have to simply type in 1.
