Public Cloud Storage

A public cloud storage (also called as storage-as-a-service or online storage or utility storage) is a cloud hosting service model for storing data. The service provider makes data available over the Internet, and charges on the basis of the storage space utilized.

Unlike private cloud storage, public cloud storage is intended to serve multiple customers / organizations and the storage capacity is shared among them. A public cloud storage service can be initiated in two ways – either through Web Service APIs or Thin Client Application with API enabled storage suited to applications that need scalability and the alternative suited to backups and storage of data remotely in the cloud.

Most public cloud storage can also be installed with much faster, and with more accessibility and scalability than on-premises data storage. Along with storing static data, public cloud storage services can usually store live data generated by applications running on an organization’s on-premises resources.
