VPN – Basic info and working

A VPN or Virtual Private Network helps users to access a private network and share information and data remotely via public networks.

There is a three-step process in the working of a VPN network.

Authentication – in this step, the data packets are encapsulated to conceal their identity.

Tunneling – this step entails the creation of an imaginary tunnel for direct point to point connection for data transfer via the internet.

Encryption – here, the data packets are encrypted so that the information can be safeguarded.

In a VPN, the user will connect to a server through the network provided by the service provider via an encrypted connection. If the user so desires, they can also spoof their IP address and substitute it with the provider’s. That way their identity can remain hidden. Using a VPN will also allow the user to be able to use public networks without the fear of any safety issues.
