Is there any future of emerging data center technologies?

Emerging data center technologies will be focused more on sustainability and reduction of carbon footprint. There will be better defined approach to enhance efficiency by reducing power consumption and workforce. The day is not far when data centers will operate with almost no human intervention with increased due to state of the art automation technologies.

Exponential growth of data generation will create demand for more efficient and secure data storage capacities with help of cloud computing. Amalgamation of the finest data storage and cloud technologies with physical facilities will pave way for merger and acquisitions. This will considerably reduce number of data center services. It is also postulated that Software Defined Data Centers will come into existence with a total redesigning of IT processes.

In five years time most of organizations will acquire programmatic efficiencies coupled with enhanced flexibility and automation to proceed to realization of Software Defined Data Centers. The process has already begun with more and more organizations adopting public, private and hybrid cloud approach. There is also a possibility of mitigation of vendor lock-in to great extent. It is very clear that emerging data center technologies will lead to a better environment friendly infrastructure with optimized needs for power and other utilities.

With technology advancing and the user expectations increasing data centers too have to be on par and be as innovative and supportive as possible. The facilities have to be aimed to the future. Let us look at how the data center may look like in the coming few years. One point that will be focused on is the sustainability. Lowering of energy use will be stressed upon and work will be intensified to reduce carbon footprint. Majority of the data centers is already emphasizing on green data centers using renewable energy sources like wind power and waste rain water for energy generation. The second point of concentration is to boost efficiency and make maximum use of the resources with increased dependence on automated services and virtualization. This will result in shrinking of requirement of human manpower. There are possibilities of data centers getting fully automated and with self-healing processes the need for human involvement may not be required. The future will see more of the cloud computing technology. The data flow will continue to increase requiring more space to store. The physical storage capacity will not be sufficient and will see the hardware vendors engage in dealing with cloud hosting providers and meet the storage demands using both tangible and cloud capabilities.
