Requirement of Dedicated IP for SSL

IP stands for Internet Protocol. It is an identifying number for a network hardware device. If a device has to communicate with other devices over the internet, it would require an IP address to do so.

SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer. This is a standard security protocol that allows for the establishment of encrypted links between a browser and a web server in an online communication. This technology is used so that all the data that is transmitted between the browser and the web server is encrypted.

A dedicated IP is required if you desire proper functioning of the SSL certificate.

The change from a shared IP to a dedicated one may take some time. While some visitors to the site may be able to view the new IP address immediately, in some cases, it may take several hours. This is the reason it is not recommended that this change be made while the user is in the midst of a promotional campaign. Planning ahead is better to contain the impact of the change.
