What are the advantages and disadvantages of Dedicated IP address?

A dedicated IP address is dedicated to the owner of web site. She/he is the owner of the IP address and has complete control over it. A dedicated IP has multiple advantages over other shared IP addresses.

1. A dedicated IP address has less downtime from the server, each time it refreshes.
2. A dedicated IP address is essential to have own private SSL certificate.
3. A dedicated IP address is required to make Anonymous FTP to function properly.
4. Dedicated IP address helps in accessing the website by FTP or browser even when name of the domain remains inaccessible.
5. Dedicated IP address allows the owner to access remotely, to the owner’s personal computer from any location of the world.
6. Dedicated IP address makes running a File Transfer Protocol, FTP server possible by setting up dedicated specific software.

The Dedicated IP Addresses have some disadvantages also.

1. The main disadvantage of a dedicated IP address is that each dedicated IP address is occupied by a single computer even when the computer is not in use. It happens when the dedicated IP address is assigned to the owner. It lowers down the limits of available IP addresses.
2. A computing system with a dedicated IP address is very easy to track via the internet network. It prevents websites visitors to download a particular set of content.
