To set up a private name server on a VPS or
dedicated server, one must obtain an IP address to identify his particular name server. This can be easily checked in the server’s welcome mail.
Once the client has his IP, he can register his name server on the domain registrar’s site. The
VPS server service provider company provides name server setup assistance to their clients on demand.
One just has to set up the name servers after they are properly registered with the registrar.
The client has to follow simple log in procedure:
• At first the client should log into WHM and proceed to DNS functions.
• He has to choose the domain from the drop down list to set the nameserver for.
• To indicate primary nameserver and in use email address, the client must update SOA records.
• Creation of A records for domains is a must by the client to identify the IP addresses used while registering the name servers and to save the changes made.
• Basic cPanel and WHM setup menu helps in automatic applications of personal name servers for all newly created cPanel accounts by adding the client’s personal name servers.
The DNS changes may need about 24 to 72 hours and the client can go on with his hosting.
