In Utility Computing, the provider makes available computing resources and infrastructure management to clients on a pay-as-use basis than charging them a flat rate. This model aims at reducing costs while maximizing the efficient utilization of resources. It is also known as pay-per-use or metered service. It is now being used increasingly in enterprise computing, and is gaining popularity in the consumer market too for file sharing, website access, internet service, etc. It allows the user to think and implement only those services they think they would use. Some organizations go for a hybrid strategy which is a combination of internal and outsourced services.
