Social engine is a software suite. It is used to customize online communities. The social engines are categorized in distinct two groups. The first one is stand alone software package called Social Engine PHP. The other one is software as a service called Social Engine Cloud. Installation of social engine on a VPS is a software installation to customize the VPS server service. Generally Social Engine PHP remains the basic requirement for this purpose. Certain steps are to be followed to install a social engine on a VPS server: 1. One needs to install Apache; the most widely used open source web server software and MySQL, the open source relational data base management system (RDBMS) in the beginning. Both are for free of cost. 2. After this, one has to upload all his/her files to his/her public www directory. /var/www/html for Linux operating system and c\xampp\htdocs for Windows operating system. 3. After uploading the files to public www directory, if the social engine cannot find any configuration, it will automatically redirect the installer to an installation page. It will direct the installer to create some writeable folders and then allow the installer to enter MySQL credentials. This enables to set up the site’s name and stuff. This completes the process of installing social engine on a VPS. |
