Clients usually get confused between VPS hosting and semi dedicated hosting. In fact, it is on the customer needs that the solution depends upon. Now, let’s see what’s semi-dedicated is all about. It can be said that shared hosting are quite similar to semi-dedicated hosting concept. However, it is found that semi-dedicated ones are more suited for medium enterprises or corporate entities. Unlike shared hosting (where the number of accounts sharing the server are practically unlimited), the number of accounts in semi-dedicated ones are limited. That’s why each user gets more bandwidth and space in comparison to shared hosting. To draw similarity with a real life example, it can be said that shared hosts allow 50 to 70 tenants in a rented apartment whereas semi-dedicated servers allow just 5 to 7. VPS, on the other hand, is one of the most cost effective hosting solutions where consumers get dedicated-like environment but at a far less cost that dedicated servers. Here, the machine server is shared by many users but each of them have received virtually segregated compartments, known as virtual private server. User control over data in a VPS is much more than that in a semi dedicated server.
