A content delivery network aims to cut down latency. CDN is a network of cloud servers deployed in different locations all over the globe. It replicates your web pages and delivers the content to a visitor from the server closest to them. jQuery is a free, feature-rich JavaScript library that normally consumes a long time to download.

Using a CDN will cut down the Jquery library load time drastically. Users from different geographical points will get their content from their respective points which will reduce the overall page load time.

The jQuery library will be cached as and when a visitor accesses it from any website. So, they do not have to download it again a second time. jQuery library is hosted on both Microsoft and Google CDNs.

Another advantage of using CDN is that it cuts down the bandwidth use and reduces load from the server. jQuery projects use huge number of bytes when a new project is downloaded. Developers want to download the latest version immediately resulting in an increase of load on the website.

The third party CDNs including Google and Microsoft do not download the files immediately on their CDNs necessitating the jQuery to implement its own jQuery CDNs.
