A CDN (Content Delivery Network) is actually a network of proxy servers spread across the different geographical locations. Each CDN node cashes the static content of a website, be it web objects, downloadable objects, applications or video streaming. And, when a request for the website is made from a user, the node closest to the user delivers the static content with high availability and performance; which is the core objective of using a Content Delivery Network. Growing number of businesses coming online to tap the extensive reach and great potential of Internet, the trend of implementing CDN is getting matured. To leave a great users’ experience, high availability and optimum performance of your website is inevitable. However, there are some disadvantages too that must be taken into consideration prior to implementation. Advantages: • Shorter connection distance • Decreased latency • Faster load time • Higher availability • More control of asset delivery Disadvantages: • Not useful for some organizations • Cost • Maintenance • Verification of the best locations |
