Yes, Content Delivery Network (CDNs) are valuable for video streaming as they can accelerate media files’ delivery in a reliable and secure environment. Also, CDNs ensures the availability of asset all the times, even when the demand spikes.

CDNs Video On-Demand

A few general CDNs offer CDN services for on-request video content. There is a perception that video content has large size similar to a large application or game download; therefore, the video content serving will not be more different as compared to other content.

Running servers provides the content on request, while just deliver bits demanded instead of the complete length of video. It was quite helpful for content owner paying for Content Delivery Network as the viewer selecting to license viewing clip in the middle of the duration won’t have downloaded clip, irrespective of the internet speed of viewer.

In direct download, the complete video clip should be downloaded to the computer prior being viewed. However, it is acceptable to download a computer application or gam, viewers’ tolerance level is waiting for the downloading of content, especially something like movie that has a size of 1GB.

Other option is progressive download that is utilized by numerous online video websites like YouTube. CDN stars delivering download; however viewer can witness content in 3-5 seconds on assumption that quick internet connection of viewer will keep on downloading video clip at faster pace in order to prevent viewable content that is running out.

CDNs Live Video

In spite of beginning of HTTP and ABR streaming, still there is a requirement for CDNs live video, since the video can’t get cached as content get, recorded previously.

Probably, it is the least mature CDN model for three factors. The first is major video content distributed through CDNs is the video on-demand. There are assumptions that around 95 percent online video is delivered as on-request video content.

Second is as live video could not be cached, it is quite important to modify basic CDN infra that have either high bandwidth and user is viewing content or have low-bandwidth pipes sending live stream to the reflector closer to end user.

The last and final is the cost of building and maintaining live streaming for famous events is intimidating.
