Shared Resource

A shared resource can be simply connoted as a computer resource that is provided to the users over a network, such as Internet. Computer programs, printers, data storage devices are few of the examples of shared resources. A network is shared with the help of inter-process communication.

A shared resource can be data stored on the computer, which can be accessed by setting up the remote connection, either by a LAN, or through an Intranet facility. Shared drive volume, shared printer access, shared folder, shared document access all fall in the category of shared resources. Sometimes, people may form a perception that both Shared file access and File transfer protocol FTP) are the same things., but both of them are two different things. Shared file access is a local area network (LAN) service, on the contrary, FTP is an Internet service.
