Often, cloud servers are confused with VPS; however both have almost same advantages and works on virtualization. Cloud servers makes use of multiple servers that are connected together and supported via SAN storage. However, VPS is a one physical server that is segmented in small servers which acts as virtual server. Following are a few major differences in between cloud servers and VPS –

1. Availability
In VPS, in case if some part of the server is failed, then there will be a downtime till the time problem is not fixed.
In Cloud Server, if failure takes place, the system is automatically re-routed to physical resource that results in no downtime.

2. Resource Distribution
In cloud server, your data is completely separated from others’ data. However, in VPS, you will get a virtual server that has certain bandwidth and portioned disk space, but the memory and CPU is distributed in every VPS slice.

3. Infra
In Cloud hosting, a small portion is rented on the huge machines’ network that are connected together. According to your requirements, you can increase your resources.

In VPS hosting, a dedicated server (for instance, a server along with resources and 64 GB RAM) is segregated in multiple servers. These partitions get visualized further and every server works as dedicated and known as VPS or VDS (Virtual Dedicated Server).
