Our Linux distributions are constructed by using the standard kernels. The bundling and packaging is done differently. Some of our distributions are Debian-based while others make use of Red Hat. The collection of packages, their method of compilation and the mode of delivery defines the uniqueness of Linux server. Our Linux Operating System makes use of a process called release file which consists of the OS version and release information. It is in the form of a simple text file that can be accessed from the /etc directory. Simply look up the list of OS, related commands and the corresponding files to know the exact version of Linux on which your system is running. |
